This fellow is not a WWI soldier. He wears the Pattern 1895 Officers Dress uniform with hidden closure. He also wears the Pattern 1895 Forage Cap. After the Span Am War the Army made many changes based on lessons learned. During that war they ran up on Cubans armed with German Mauser bolt action rifles using smokeless powder. The Cubans were also using earth tone color uniforms and those things put together made the Cubans a difficult adversary when they blended into the foliage and firing their weapons left no smoke signature to betray their location. Needless to say, the US Army revamped their soldiers and switched to smokeless powder, the 1903 bolt action Springfield Rifle, and earth tone uniforms and equipment
