Vtg 2000 Robert & Linda Waldron Signed Hand Painted Gourd Art Nativity Diorama
This unique, vintage piece of holiday folk art was handcrafted in the year 2000 by the celebrated regional Florida folk artists Robert and Linda Waldron. It features a large, hollowed-out, round dried natural gourd that functions as a structural nativity diorama shell. The exterior is beautifully finished with warm, organic, glossy amber tones that highlight the natural texture of the gourd. The front features a large, precision-cut open window framed in deep contrast black, displaying a meticulously hand-painted interior scene. The festive scene depicts the Holy Family in stylized folk imagery, showcasing Mary in rich royal blue robes kneeling beside Baby Jesus in a rustic straw-filled manger under a prominent, vibrant green palm tree. On the opposite side stands Joseph draped in traditional purple and green vestments, reaching upward toward a brilliantly painted golden Star of Bethlehem that anchors the top of the design near the natural stem. The bottom of the piece features a flat, stable, level base featuring the hand-lettered original ink signatures of the artists, labeled "Nativity", and explicitly dated "2000". This specific model is a highly sought-after seasonal holiday display piece from the Waldrons' notable portfolio of regional American craft creations. Due to the completely natural variations inherent to dried gourds and the strict hand-painted workflow utilized by the artists, this specific nativity diorama model is a one-of-a-kind creation, representing an exceptionally rare and collectible acquisition for any dedicated folk art or nativity scene collector.
