antique "The American Model Builder" Complete Manual of Instructions, manufactured by The American Mechanical Toy Co. of Dayton, Ohio, U.S.A.

The manual provides instructions for building models with the thirteen progressive outfits of the toy construction sets, which were a precursor to the popular Erector sets.

The system was produced in the United States from 1912 to 1921.

The American Model Builder was a "Meccano clone" and production ceased after the company was sued for patent infringement.

The manual cover features period illustrations of two boys building with the set.

The American Model Builder, known as The Toy for the Boy, was a precursor of the erector set. This 1913 instruction manual illustrates dozens of "marvelous mechanical models" that "can be built by any boy," such as a zeppelin, gas engine, dreadnaught, air compressor, Mary-Go-'Round, lighthouse, and many many other creative projects for the young engineer. A fascinating period piece.
