Vintage Zim Mfg Co Chicago Hand Crank Engine Valve Grinder Lapping Tool

This is an authentic, vintage 1920s to 1930s era automotive mechanics' hand-crank valve grinding and lapping tool. It was manufactured by the Zim Manufacturing Company based out of Chicago, Illinois. The tool features a heavy cast iron gear housing with its original black painted finish, two turned wooden stabilization knobs, and a robust steel hand crank. Measuring approximately 9.5 inches in total length with a 3.5-inch round main body, it features an internal oscillating gear mechanism that smoothly translates a continuous cranking motion into an alternating back-and-forth action required to perfectly lap engine valves into their cylinder head seats. It retains its vintage rubber suction tip on the driving shaft end. While these tools are common collector pieces from early American industrial history, single units in completely functional condition with both original wood knobs and the rubber suction cup still attached are uncommon and highly sought after for active classic car restoration or vintage garage displays.
