vintage Atlantic Aviation Motor Oil 1-quart metal can 30s^50s

Historic Context & Origins
This specific can was manufactured by The Atlantic Refining Company, an industrial giant founded in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1866. Originally part of Standard Oil, Atlantic became independent again in 1911 and later merged to become ARCO. The bold, graphic design on this can dates primarily from the late 1930s through the 1940s.
During this era of early commercial flight, producing dedicated "Aviation" formula lubricants was a massive marketing win for petroleum brands. It proved their oils could withstand the extreme temperatures and strict mechanical demands of aircraft engines.
