This item is a vintage HO scale wood craftsman model railroad kit of an Atlantic Coast Line (ACL) Ventilated Watermelon Car, produced by the famous Ambroid Company as part of their historic K-Series (Kit #K-3) line. First introduced in early 1950, these craftsman kits are iconic representations of the "Golden Age" of wood model railroading.
- Road Name & Authenticity: Decorated as an "Authentic A C L Prototype" featuring highly detailed pre-printed white lettering, technical load specifications, and the circular "Atlantic Coast Line" emblem on the right side of the car body.
- Design Features: Built to mimic a true ventilated fruit car, it features open slatted side panels/screen doors designed to allow airflow for transporting watermelons without spoiling. The model measures roughly 5 inches long and sits in its original yellow-and-black graphic two-piece cardboard box.
- Assembly Status: This specific kit has been built/assembled from its original wood strips and metal details. It is equipped with secondary metal wheel trucks and functional couplers, making it ready to drop straight onto an analog DC layout track.
