Antique Iron Horseshoe Tagged Medieval 14th Century Square Nail Holes Hand Forged
DESCRIPTION:
A heavily patinated iron horseshoe sold with a handwritten tag identifying it as a Medieval horseshoe, 14th century. While sold as-is without guarantee of date, several features are consistent with genuine medieval examples:
• Square/rectangular nail holes — characteristic of hand-cut medieval nails, not modern round holes
• Wide flat symmetrical U-profile typical of medieval horse shoes
• Prominent fullering (raised ridges around nail holes)
• Heavy uniform iron corrosion consistent with extreme age
• Hand-forged construction with no evidence of machine manufacture
The shoe came tagged as 'Medieval Horse Shoe 14th Century' by a previous owner or dealer. These features are consistent with horseshoes found at medieval archaeological sites in Britain and Europe.
Sold as-is. No provenance documentation included. Buyer is encouraged to do their own research. I make no guarantee of age or origin — this is sold as a collectible antique.
Would make a fascinating display piece for medieval history enthusiasts, metal detecting collectors, or equestrian antique collectors.
