A magnificent display piece from a private collection — a Byzantine iron spearhead and three iron arrowheads, professionally presented in a white shadow box frame with red velvet backing and a period Byzantine military illustration.
A printed label identifies the pieces as Byzantine Spearhead and Arrowheads, 10th to 15th Century AD, Found outside Ravenna, Italy.
Ravenna was the capital of the Byzantine Exarchate of Ravenna until 751 AD and remained a significant Byzantine cultural and military centre throughout the medieval period. It is one of the most important Byzantine sites in Western Europe.
The display comprises:
1. SPEARHEAD — Large iron spearhead with elongated triangular blade and socket. Heavy black iron corrosion consistent with significant age. Displayed diagonally across the frame.
2. THREE ARROWHEADS — Iron arrowheads of leaf/bullet form, consistent with Byzantine and medieval military arrowhead types. Two displayed upper right, one lower left.
All pieces are mounted against a full colour illustration depicting Byzantine military figures including an Emperor, Varangian Guards and infantrymen — providing excellent historical context.
