Up for sale is an authentic, antique 1901 fraternal ribbon medal from the Sons of Veterans, U.S.A. (Pennsylvania Division). Formed as an auxiliary to the Grand Army of the Republic (G.A.R.), this historical organization was composed of the sons and descendants of Union soldiers who fought in the American Civil War. 
This specific piece is an official souvenir badge issued for their 1901 annual state encampment/reunion. The bronze-tone metal pendant is intentionally shaped like a keystone--the official state symbol of Pennsylvania.
The front face of the keystone showcases the Pennsylvania Coat of Arms in crisp, raised detail: an American eagle crest, twin rearing horses holding the state shield, and the state motto banner reading "Virtue, Liberty, and Independence". The pendant is suspended by a tricolor patriotic red, white, and blue fabric ribbon attached to an ornate metal top bar stamped "SOUVENIR". 
This is a fantastic, verified piece of turn-of-the-century Civil War legacy history, Pennsylvania regional memorabilia, and patriotic Americana.

  • Condition: Excellent antique condition with a clean, dark natural aged patina on the metal hardware. The original red, white, and blue fabric ribbon shows minor historical fading and light edge fraying consistent with a 125+ year old textile, but remains completely strong and structurally sound. The reverse side features a flat, unengraved back on the pendant and its original functional mounting pin on the header bar.
