I think this has a -49 part number and originally designed to carry the boxes for the Motorola Twin-V (tube type) radio. It will fit all Big Twin rigid frame bikes from 1936-1957 and with special “adapter plates” swingarm bikes from 1958-84. When Motorola came out with the “Transistor(ized) Dispatcher” radios in 1957 the tube-type radios became obsolete so the radio specific boxes got replaced with “utility boxes” (hinged lids, latches and no holes) to carry gloves, ticket books and doughnuts.
