   vintage 1969 Mattel Hot Wheels Rod Runner Hand Shift Power Booster set. 

  It is a mechanical, "rubber band" powered booster that snaps onto Hot Wheels track. 

  The device allows the user to control the speed of the cars by shifting a stick. 

  The set requires no batteries or electricity. 

  It was released as part of the Hot Wheels Cars & Track Series of toys in 1969
